Dear Sir:

This is a general letter of recommendation for Dr. Gunnar R. Grape,
who was a member of our staff from November 6, 1967 through May 11, 1973.

Gunnar Grape began work here as a Research Assistant at a salary of $850
per month.  His initial responsibilities had to do with the development of
computer programs to perform visual filtering operations.  His work in this
area was excellent.

In 1969 he was accepted as a graduate student in Computer Science at Stanford
and consequently in October of that year became a Student Research Assistant
in our Laboratory.  This position carried a tax-free fellowship of about
$5,500 per year.

In May 1973, he completed all the requirements for Ph.D. in Computer Science
and was subsequently awarded that degree.  His doctoral dissertation on
"Model Based (Intermediate Level) Computer Vision" was an outstanding
contribution to the field.

Overall, we were very pleased with Gunnar Grape's performance.  I recommend
him as a very creative and hard-working individual.
